Are you a horror movie fanatic? Or just somebody who loves to get scared out of your wits? Then this list is for you. Here's a list of ten horror movies to give you the heebie-jeebies.
The Conjuring (2013)
Based on a true story about real life people and real haunted house, the Conjuring is one of the most popular horror movies to date. In the 1970s, demonologists and the most famous paranormal investigators, Ed and Lorraine Warren, arrive at the home of the Perron family. Carolyn and Roger have just moved in with five daughters when they discover a terrifying supernatural presence within the house.
2. The Exorcist (1973)
When 12-year-old Regan is possessed by an evil entity, her mother seeks the help of two priests to save her daughter. Based on the experience of Roland Doe, a 14-year-old boy that was exorcised in March of 1949, this movie made it as one of the most profitable horror films of all time. If you're looking to be outright terrified for two hours and twelve minutes, this movie is for you.
3. Halloween (1978)
This movie is a definite classic and widely fans by tons of horror fans. The movie stars Michael Myers, a deranged who murdered his older sister Julie at age six. 15 years later, Michael has escaped and is on the search for new victims. Interestingly, the description of young Michael Myers was inspired by John Carpenter's experience with a real-life mental patient.
4. The Visit (2015)
This is definitely a movie I will never watch again as it gave me nightmares for a week. When two young kids are left with their grandparents for a week-long trip, everything starts out normal. But pretty quickly, Olivia and Ed realize that their grandparents aren't all they seem. And now instead of worrying about what games they're going to play, they're fighting for their very lives.
5. The Shining (1980)
This is one movie that I'm sure you're not surprised to see on this list. Based on a dream that Stephen King had while staying at the haunted Stanley Hotel in Colorado. A writer named Jack Torrance takes up a job as the winter caretaker at the Overlook Hotel. He settles in with his wife and their son, Danny, who's troubled by premonitions. As Danny's visions get more disturbing, Jack begins to realize that there's a lot more to this hotel than meets the eye.
6. It (2017)
As one of the most loved and terrifying movies, it's no surprise that this clown-infested horror film made it to this list. An ancient, shape-shifting evil known as Pennywise the murderous and bloodthirsty clown, has emerged from the sewers to prey on the town's children. Seven young outcasts must face their worst fears and survive this terrifying enemy.
7. Host (2020)
A recent study named this movie the scariest film of all time. During an online séance, six friends accidentally draw the attention of a demonic presence. As strange things begin happening in their homes, all six fight and pray to make it out alive. What's really interesting is that this movie is presented entirely on a computer screen, as it's centered around a video call on Zoom.
8. Insidious (2010)
This was honestly one of the most horrifying movies I've ever seen in my life but it was so good! Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne star as parents of a comatose boy named Dalton. But that's not the only problem that they're facing. Their new home is haunted and Dalton is possessed by an malevolent entity. Something interesting is that while this movie wasn't based on a true story, some of the scare sequences were based on real-life occurrences.
9. Saw (2004)
This movie follows the story of two men, Adam and Lawrence, who are the lastest victims of a sadistic serial killer nicknamed "Jigsaw". They are forced to complete perverse puzzles in order to live, and Lawrence's wife and young daughter are forced to witness this torture through video footage. Flashbacks reveal and relate previous victims of this crazed killer.
10. Relic (2020)
This is not just one of the most terrifying horrors of the year, it's also one of 2020's best movies. So of course I had to add it. When the demented, elderly, and widowed Edna goes missing, her daughter Kay and granddaughter Sam travel to her remote home. However, Edna doesn't remain gone for long. She returns the next morning with no recollection of her disappearance and a large bruise resembling the black mold. Although the doctor has deemed her to be mostly of sound mind, Edna begins to act very odd. Sam and Kay soon discover a haunting presence hanging over the home, which is taking over Edna's mind.
